If you are using 3rd party certificates, you more than likely need to install an intermediate certificate as well when installing certificates for your website.  The following are the 3 directives that are required and an explanation of each.  These should be placed in the virtual host section / file of the website.

Your virtual host section will need to contain the following (3) directives:

    • SSLCertificateChainFile – This will need to point to the appropriate Intermediate root CA certificates.
    • SSLCertificateFile – This will need to point to the end entity certificate (the actual certificate used for the website)
    • SSLCertificateKeyFile – This will need to point to the private key file associated with your certificate.
  1. Save the changes to the file and quit the text editor
  2. Restart Apache.
